From the knurled (Checkered) bezel to the knurled main and minor stems (crowns) the Orient titanium is a handsome timepiece. The engineers who designed this watch really did a very nice job of balancing style and "military" no-nonsense looks. This watch just flat out looks good. Instead of a rough flat surface usually seen on titanium watches, Orient took the extra step of finishing the band and watch case in a very clean low reflection satin finish. The case and band are medium grey in color. But, all this good looks does pose a problem. What dial color will you pick? All four colors, black, blue, white and gray have their own unique style and it is difficult to choose. Even though this watch looks good, it isn't just another pretty face. It can convert statute miles to nautical miles or metric kilometers and back again. It can do multiplication and division functions using the bezel slide rule along with currency conversions. And, here's a neat trick. The exterior bezel doesn't rotate, but the lower smaller knurled stem rotates an inner bezel under the crystal for the math and conversion functions. No rotating exterior bezel to get clogged with sand and dirt. There are no 1, 2, or 3 o'clock numbers on this watch. It starts at 13:00 hours and finishes at 24:00 hours. This is a true 24 hour military timepiece. Now, here's the kicker. It never needs batteries and you never wind it. This is a self-winding automatic that maintains over 40 hours of power reserve. The weight of this watch is something to behold. Typical stainless steel watches, either quartz or mechanical, weigh somewhere between 5.7 to 8.0 ounces or more. This watch weighs a mere 3.7 oz. That's the advantage of titanium. It's lightweight properties are instantly felt when you remove it from the box. On the underside of each link is a slot. Just insert a small pointy object into the slot and slide the slot in the direction of the arrow and pull the locking blade out of the link. Do the same to the slot next to it and the link is off the watch. Reconnect the watch by reinserting the blade. No fumbling around trying to drive pins out or unscrewing hopelessly small screws that, without the right screwdriver, are destined to be ruined. The titanium band has a double locking clasp for maximum security. As an added touch of class, the the Orient double lion crest is located on the locking clasp. The watch case is approximately a half to 1 mm less diameter than a normal dive watch like a Luminox or Smith & Wesson, but the watch face covers over 90% of the diameter due to the slim design of the bezel. So if you have a little difficulty picking up the time without reading glasses, this is far easier to read. And, the case thickness is far less than most automatics, which are frankly just too fat. This is a relatively slim design, slimmer than even a Smith & Wesson quartz tritium. The military model contains a full 21 jewel, 6 beat per second automatic watch engine.
